I despise this statement. Why is it called “Work At Home Moms? So this would mean Dads can’t work at home? I know a lot of people that are writers, customer service people, bloggers or guy’s that just enter data all day for a company.

Over the years, it is becoming more and more popular to be able to work from home. So no matter if you are a man or a woman, you can still stay at home and work at your own pace. Don’t get me wrong, you still have to produce. If you are a type of person that thinks he/she could maintain a job at home, be careful, because there are a lot of scammers out there. Just remember one thing, you are working for them, so don’t pay them anything, they have to pay you.

Ok, lets start at the beginning, if your that type of person that would rather be home then driving or busing it to an office, then may be one of these jobs could be for you.

Virtual Assistant — $10 to $15 per hour – Some companies hire self-employed virtual assistants. You will perform typical office duties. Email, managing calendars, entering data and assisting with social media. Here are the sites to go to: Upwork.com, Flexjobs.com and PeoplePerHour.com to find freelance opportunities.

Transcriptionist — Up to $25 per hour – This is a person that listens to an audio tape and then types out what they hear. Entry level transcription jobs can be looked up at TranscribeAnywhere.com, TranscribeMe.com. or Quicktate.com.

Survey Taker — $1 to $50 per survey – They have an opinion poll where you would answer questions about shopping habits or a review of products. VisitDarwinsData.com, PineconeResearch.com or PaidViewpoint.com. A word to the wise: “Do Not” sign up with anyone that wants a Social Security #, Membership Fee, or any Bank Information.

Website Tester — $10 to $15 per test – Many companies pay online testers to make sure websites are interesting and easy to navigate . You can go to “RealWaysToEarnMoneyOnline.com. It takes approximately 15 minutes per test and U should register with about 10 to 12 different companies because it is a 1st come, 1st serve kind of deal. Go to Usertesting.com YouEye.com or Userlytics.com These sites usually pay between on to two weeks via PayPal.

 

Film and Post How to Videos — Pays $1 to $2 per 1000 hits. Sometimes people would ask you about a recipe or how you made that item. Everyone knows how to do something or has a hobby of some kind. These things can be easily turned into profits, on YouTube. Open an account. Then use a smartphone or digital camera to record yourself explaining and demonstrating whatever you would like to promote. Once enrolled and updated to YouTube enroll in its partner program. YouTube will then place ads inside or near your video, and you will earn money from the ads. “The whole idea is to put a spin on your video, especially if there are a lot of video’s on the same subject.

Corporate English Tutor — Around $15 – This would be perfect for a native English speaker with basic computer skills and an interest in other cultures. Students in other countries like Japan, Korea, France and German are looking for English speakers to practice English with. Sessions focus on making professional small talk or running a meeting. Lessons take place either over the phone or on video chat like Skype. Sometimes at night because you’re working with students in different time zones. Telephone Nurse — Need to have a nursing degree. Which pays around the same as a nurse on a regular job, approx $50,000 a year. Health insurers like Humana, Aetna, United Health Group hire nurses remotely to perform duties like case management, treatment authorization and patient education. To find the correct position for you, go to the listings at Major Medical firms-placement like MedicalJobsOnLine.com, The Judge Group (Judge.com) or MedZilla.com.

Search Engine Evaluator — $9 to $10 per hour – English speakers who are up on movies and music. Companies like Google and Yahoo give you information to search for and you tell them if their results matched what you were looking for. Leap Force At Home.com and Appen Butler Hill are some firms that companies would hire through.

Customer Service Representative — $8 to $18 per hour – People with patience who are good at talking with people on the pone while on the computer. Companies are looking for people with excellent speaking abilities and solid computer skills to help their customers find the right sizes, place orders or resolve a conflict. Both full or part-time and are generally required to work at least 4 hours straight. Customer Service is the biggest work-at-home field. Some of the companies are Spiegel, Hilton, Best Western, HSN and 1 800 Flowers. Fill out an application with staffing companies like Arise, Alpine Access, VIPdesk, LiveOps and Convergys.

Online Teacher — 1st year around $30,000 – Teachers who don’t want a typical school schedule. Instead of standing in a classroom, you will teach through Skype or in a pre-recorded session. There is a growing demand for teachers in all subjects. Especially English, History and Science. Check out K12.com and Connections Academy.com. Both offer various benefits. Working with kids there will be a background check and reference checks. You may also need to be licensed.

Virtual Tutor — $12 to $35 per hour – People who have limited time to work and extensive knowledge of a subject or are fluent in a foreign language. You work with a student who needs extra help usually for a 1/2 hour over the phone or Skype. Sylvan learning (tutoring.sylvanlearning.com) tutor.com, tutorvista.com and tutorzilla.com. All of these offer a good section of the kinds of tutoring jobs that are out there. Since you will be working with children there will be a background check.

Work At Home (Dads?) — Unlimited Potential — This is not only for Retirees, but for College Students, University Students, Disabled Vets, Unemployed People (that want to start their own business), People in Business Already, Low Salaried Employees or Anyone looking to better themselves.  All you need is the Patience and Perseverance. Scams Online

Watch out for some of these scams when looking for online money making opportunities.

  • Website has no contact information — Look for an About Page that offers information about the CEO along with a pone #, address or contact email. Try calling the # to see if anyone answers. A website with only a contact form and no other way to get in touch with an actual human, is suspicious.
  • It sounds too good to be true — The promise that you could make a $1000 a week at home is never the reality.
  • There are complaints on line — Do a quick internet search. Type in the website mane then scam, see what comes up.
  • There’s a fee — Most sites wouldn’t charge you to sign up. There are a few exceptions, like as a membership to a legitimate job board, like FlexJobs.com which posts freelance and telecommuting positions.

Great post Bill. I have been making my whole living as a work-at-home-dad for the past couple years. I haven’t singed on with any particular company but I have pretty well freelancing. You have hit on all the major channels and this will be very helpful for everyone that wants to live this lifestyle and spend more time with their kids.

    Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you, it was my wife’s birthday over the weekend. When you say you are freelancing, what if any is your niche, per say? I am at WA a little over 8 months now and have not seen any substantial money yet. Maybe I am doing something wrong? Well like you say, working at home does give you more time with the kids, which is a great thing. All the best always.

Confession of a ”work at home mom.” Thanks for the post, you have some great info. I have worked in a few of the positions mentioned. Currently enrolled at Transcribe anywhere. Freedom to work anywhere is great.

Hi,
You made a very informative article, about online jobs in fact I will try to register with some of these because you listed variety of them. Online is the way to go especially with the current jobs pressure. But people need to be informed its not a get rich quick system, it takes time and dedication to make it.
